Alhaji Moshood Ajao, the South West coordinator of the Elders’ Forum of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has cleared the air over media reports suggesting that the Appeal Court had nullified the election of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, as the union’s president.
The clarification follows rumors that the Court of Appeal invalidated Oluomo’s election, which took place at the zonal delegates conference held in Osogbo, Osun State, on November 9, 2024.
However, in a statement issued, Ajao explained that the election of MC Oluomo at the Osogbo conference was constitutionally valid, and that he was never involved in any court proceedings related to the matter.
Ajao further emphasized that Akinsanya did not file or participate in any appeal, which he described as lacking merit.
He clarified that the Appeal Court ruling, delivered in Abuja on November 8, 2024, was made one day before the Osogbo conference, and neither Akinsanya nor the delegates at the conference were aware of the judgment when the election took place.
According to Ajao, Akinsanya was neither a petitioner nor a respondent in the case. The decision to elect him as NURTW president, he explained, was a strategic move to bring peace to the union, as Akinsanya was not a party to any ongoing litigation or leadership crisis within the NURTW.
