Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has stated that he would prefer his legacy to be defined by his development projects rather than the political battles he has faced.
Speaking to journalists after inaugurating the Airport Road Parks and Garden, Obaseki responded to questions about his desired legacy, saying, “Certainly not for the fights,” seemingly alluding to his well-known confrontations with political rivals and former allies.
In addressing how his administration’s projects will endure beyond his tenure, Obaseki emphasized sustainable management plans.
“When we thought about all these public spaces and how to manage them, we also created revenue models to support them,” he explained.
He noted that funds generated from billboards in the area would be allocated for maintenance, with additional support from Prestige Hotel and security assistance from the military.
Obaseki also remarked on the importance of completing work before holding celebrations, adding that only a small fraction of his administration’s projects would be commissioned before his term ends.
“I believe in first doing the work before celebrating,” he said. “We will try and commission as much, but I don’t think we will be commissioning as much as 10 percent of what we have done, and that is why the people came out and voted for us.”
