Father of four commits suicide over family disagreement in Ondo

A 58-year-old father of four, Omolayo Bamidele, has reportedly committed suicide in Igburowo town, Odigbo council area of Ondo State, over an alleged disagreement with members of his family.

It was learned that the deceased poisoned himself by drinking a chemical substance suspected to be Sniper.

According to police sources, some members of the deceased’s family have been invited for questioning.

Reliable sources said that shortly before terminating his life, the deceased had an argument with a family member and threatened to take his own life.

His lifeless body was later discovered on the main road that links the community to a farm settlement.

A source told newsmen that “the news of the man’s death was brought to the community’s attention at about 10:30 am on the fateful day by an octogenarian who noticed the lifeless body of the deceased on the dusty road.”

The octogenarian immediately raised an alarm, and other residents rushed to the scene.

Reports had it that the deceased left the house early in the morning after the disagreement with his family members, trekked a few kilometers to the outskirts of the community, and then committed suicide.

The family members said that no suicide note was found in the house or on the deceased after he committed suicide.

However, a substance believed to be Sniper was found behind his lifeless body.

Police detectives from the Ore area command were informed of the incident and came to evacuate the body, depositing it at the morgue of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital in Ore.

The deceased’s pair of sandals was seen at the scene of the incident, and his mobile handset was busy ringing in his pocket as the police detectives evacuated his corpse.

Though investigation has begun, police detectives have invited some family members for questioning to unravel the mystery behind the deceased’s suicide.

Contacted, the state police image maker, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that “the police are aware of the report of suicide, but we do not have details of what led to it.”

She added that the ongoing investigation by police detectives will unravel the mystery behind the deceased’s suicide
