The Ogun State Police Command has successfully rescued 80-year-old Rufus Odusanya and a man identified as Oluwaseye Olajide, who were reportedly kidnapped at Edun village junction in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The police operation took place on Thursday afternoon, around 3:00 p.m., following an anonymous distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Owode Egba.
SP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, explained that upon receiving the report of the kidnapping, the DPO quickly mobilized his team and local hunters to pursue the suspects.
“The DPO acted swiftly, assembling his team along with local hunters to track down the kidnappers,” she stated.
According to Odutola, the six armed suspects were reportedly equipped with rifles and cutlasses. “The police blocked potential escape routes and confined the criminals to known security checkpoints,” she added.
As the police closed in, the kidnappers abandoned their hostages and fled the scene, leaving Rufus Odusanya and Oluwaseye Olajide behind.
The police spokesperson confirmed that detectives are currently on the trail of the fleeing suspects to bring them to justice.
