The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has kicked off its 2024 nationwide campaign to reduce road accidents during the festive ember months, a period often marked by increased travel and road traffic crashes.

This year’s campaign introduces new strategic approaches aimed at public sensitization, particularly encouraging passengers to take an active role in reporting reckless driving.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized the importance of passenger vigilance.

“We’re urging all passengers to speak up against dangerous driving. Report any unsafe driving behaviors through the FRSC Mobile Application, by calling 122, or via National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM for timely action,” Mohammed stated.

Mr. Mohammed also outlined various new strategies for public sensitization, such as press conferences, town hall meetings, motorcade rallies, and advocacy at transit rest areas and loading bays.

“This approach arose from the need to empower passengers to assert their rights and curb driver excesses, as statistics reveal that passengers are more often victims in road crashes,” he noted.

He further directed FRSC commanding officers across all states, including the Federal Capital Territory, to initiate large-scale public enlightenment efforts.

The aim is to improve road safety awareness, maintain smooth traffic flow, and strengthen enforcement of traffic laws.

The FRSC boss also reminded the public to actively participate in reporting dangerous driving. “If you witness reckless driving, contact FRSC patrol operatives or use our toll-free number, 122, and the FRSC Mobile App for immediate reporting,” he urged.
