In a recent operation, the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 55 individuals suspected of internet fraud at multiple locations in Offa, Kwara State.
This early morning raid, conducted on Wednesday, targeted young individuals primarily of school age.
According to the EFCC, the arrests follow “credible intelligence on the rising activities of fraudsters inflicting pain and sorrow on innocent citizens.”
This crackdown according to report comes after an earlier operation in early September, where EFCC operatives detained nearly 100 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin, the state capital.
Recovered items from the suspects include nine luxury cars, two motorbikes believed to be purchased with fraudulent proceeds, as well as laptops, smartphones, and charms allegedly used in their operations.
An EFCC media unit statement confirmed, “The suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigations.”
