Fire Claims Life of 80-Year-Old Woman in Abeokuta

An 80-year-old woman, Mariam Salako, tragically lost her life in a fire incident that occurred on Saturday at 28 Ifelodun, Ago Ka area in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The police command in Ogun confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, who issued a statement regarding the event.

Odutola stated that the Area Commander received a distress call reporting the fire at approximately 1:00 a.m., and the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.

“Around 1:00 a.m., a distress call was made regarding a building on fire located at No. 28 Ifelodun, Ago Ka area in Abeokuta. The Area Commander promptly led a team of police officers to the site while the fire service was called for assistance,” she explained.

The Ogun State Fire Service responded quickly, managing to bring the fire under control. Unfortunately, Mariam Salako, who resided in the building, was unable to escape and perished in the flames.

However, a man known as Baba Ali, whose age has not yet been confirmed, was rescued by community members through a window while he was asleep during the fire.

Odutola added that the remains of the elderly woman have been deposited at the morgue.
