The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended a woman, Hamsatu Modu, for allegedly trafficking 350 rounds of ammunition within the state.
The suspect was intercepted while transporting the ammunition from Buni Yadi to Damaturu, the state capital.
The arrest, according to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, was made possible through credible intelligence gathered on the suspect’s movement. “On October 20, 2024, at about 1830 hours, ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, received credible intelligence regarding a suspected gunrunner en route to Damaturu,” Abdulkarim said.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police operatives intercepted a Golf 3 saloon car, which was searched thoroughly. “A thorough search revealed 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 mm ammunition concealed in the suspect’s luggage,” the statement confirmed.
The spokesperson further disclosed that Modu is currently undergoing interrogation to unravel the motives behind the trafficking and to dismantle the criminal network involved. The investigation aims to “uncover the motives and dismantle the underlying criminal organisation,” Abdulkarim added.
Yobe State Police Commissioner, CP Garba Ahmed, has emphasized the command’s dedication to tackling crime in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “We remain committed to ensuring the safety of the people and dismantling criminal elements within Yobe State,” CP Ahmed affirmed.
