At least four individuals were killed early Sunday morning when armed assailants, believed to be cult members, stormed the Edeoha community in the Ahoada-East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Reports indicate that the attackers, thought to be affiliated with the Iceland cult group, launched their assault around 2:00 AM, using sophisticated weapons and assault rifles.
They indiscriminately opened fire and moved from house to house, searching for specific targets, resulting in the tragic deaths of four residents.
Community sources revealed that three of the deceased were from Edeoha, while the fourth victim hailed from the nearby Ekata community but had been living in Edeoha. Witnesses reported that the assailants had come from a camp located in a neighboring community.
An anonymous local resident shared with our reporter that the victims were not involved in cult activities, suggesting that the attack might have been orchestrated by cult members acting on behalf of others for undisclosed reasons.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Rivers State, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the violent incident, stating, “Yes, I can confirm the incident; it’s cult-related.”
She further informed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha, has directed the Ahoada Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to launch an investigation into the attack, aiming to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice.
