The Ogun State Government has announced its plan to recruit an additional 1,000 interns under the Ogun Teaching Experience Acquisition Channel (Ogun TEACh) initiative to address existing vacancies in public schools across the state.
In a press statement released by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the recruitment drive is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in collaboration with the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB).
The TEACh initiative is a special intervention scheme aimed at filling staffing gaps in primary, secondary, and technical schools in Ogun State.
Eligibility Criteria
Prof. Arigbabu noted that prospective candidates must hold a minimum qualification of a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or a Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.A. Ed/B.Sc. Ed/B.Ed.) with at least a Second Class Lower. Additionally, applicants from other fields must possess a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a reputable university to be considered.
“For technical colleges, candidates with a B.Sc. in Technical Education, B.Sc. in Engineering, or an HND in engineering fields will also be eligible,” the commissioner added.
The recruitment process is set to take place through the Ogun State Job Portal, and interested individuals are directed to submit their applications between October 16 and November 6, 2024, via www.teach.ogunstate.gov.ng.
Deployment and Evaluation
Selected candidates, known as TEACh Interns, will be deployed to Local Government Areas that are most in need of their services. The interns will receive monthly stipends for two years and will be assessed on factors such as expertise, punctuality, commitment, respect for authority, and flexibility in work location.
This batch of 1,000 interns represents the final group in a promise made by Governor Dapo Abiodun to recruit 5,000 teaching interns under the TEACh program. The first 4,000 interns have since been offered permanent appointments and are currently serving in public schools across the state.
