Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Wednesday signed three significant bills passed by the state House of Assembly into law. These legislative acts are poised to drive critical reforms in the state.

The newly signed bills include the Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing, Second Amendment Law, 2024), aimed at curbing illegal land activities in the state.

The other two laws are the High Court Law (First Amendment, 2014) and the Ekiti State Legislative House (Powers and Privileges) Law, 2024.

The Speaker of the House, Adeoye Aribasoye, along with the leader of the House, Toku Ige, and the Clerk, Agbede, presented the bills to the governor at a brief ceremony held at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji, while commending the legislators for their dedication, emphasized the importance of the anti-land grabbing law in regulating land acquisition processes and promoting transparency in property ownership in Ekiti State.

“This has been an issue in this state; it has stunted growth and development. But now that we have a regulatory framework that gives us legal power, I can assure you that we will implement that law to the letter, no matter who is involved,” Oyebanji stated.

He further stressed that the law, when fully operational, would prohibit forceful entry, illegal occupation, and fraudulent actions concerning landed properties.

Oyebanji also lauded the members of the Seventh Assembly for their cooperation, noting that their collective efforts had contributed to the state’s remarkable progress. “I want to express my appreciation to the lawmakers for their unwavering support to this administration,” he added.

Earlier, Speaker Aribasoye expressed confidence that the new laws would advance the dividends of democracy to the people. He noted that the Assembly had consistently aligned its actions with the executive arm to ensure the state’s development trajectory remains upward.

“The event today signifies another pivotal chapter in our shared journey to effective governance. It safeguards citizens’ rights and enhances the socio-economic development of our state through responsive and responsible legislation,” Aribasoye remarked, highlighting the holistic welfare of the people as a key focus of the newly signed laws.
