Gunmen Assassinate APC Candidate, Adeleke Adeyinka in Abeokuta

Adeleke Adeyinka, a councilorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming local government elections in Ogun State, was tragically shot and killed by suspected cultist on Saturday. The incident occured in broad daylight in the Jide Jones are of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the assailants arrived in a tinted vehicle, One of the gunmen exited the car, approached Adeyinka, and shot him at a close range before brutally smashing his head.

A disturbing 27-seconds video clip of the scene has surfaced online, showing the victim lying in a pool of blood.

According to a source, “The killing happened around 2pm. It took everybody by surprise. No one knows if it is a cult-related attack or not. The people in the area are already locking their shops. Everywhere is tense now. It is so sad”.

“He was the candidate of APC for Ward 15, Abeokuta South LG, in the November 16 council poll.”

Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson in the state, stated that she was unaware of the incident at the time of reporting.

In response to the tragedy, the Ogun State All Progressive Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum has condemned what they termed the senseless killing of their candidate and has called for an investigation to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.

This was articulated in a statement jointly signed by Kabir Odedairo, Youth Leaders of Abeokuta South Local Government, and Timothy Odedina, spokesperson for the state Youth Leaders’ Forum.

“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving. The fact that Adeleke was shot and stoned to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is particularly disturbing and warrants immediate attention”.

“Adeleke was not only a dedicated member of our party, having served as the youth leader of ward 15 in Abeokuta South and worked with others during the election,” the statement read.

“As a forum, we demand a thorough investigation into the heinous crime and call on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served. We also urge the police to increase patrols and security measures in the affected areas to prevent further violence,” the statement concluded.
