Motorists using the heavily trafficked Lagos-Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode road can expect relief soon as palliative work is slated to commence on Monday, following the inspection of the road’s deteriorating condition.
The Minister of Works, Mr. Dave Dr. Umahi, revealed that the repairs are projected to be completed by the second week of December. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun praised President Bola Tinubu for his quick intervention in addressing the road’s issues.
During his inspection of the damaged sections in Sagamu, Umahi expressed concern over the road’s poor state, which has resulted in significant hardships for drivers.
He emphasized the importance of immediate action, assuring that the federal government is committed to restoring the road before year-end.
“I am not here on my own; I am directed by Mr. President, following our meeting, to assess the situation and implement necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of our people,” Umahi stated.
Accompanied by Governor Abiodun, he pointed out critical areas in need of repair, affirming that “governance is all about the people, and that is what Mr. President is dedicated to addressing.”
Umahi further disclosed that an action committee has been established, which includes the Lagos and Ogun Controllers of Works, to coordinate efforts with the state’s Commissioner for Works, Environment, and Transport.
“In emergencies like this, we must seek a competent contractor nearby, and we are fortunate to have identified Hitech for the job. We have secured palliative materials for both carriageways—totaling 120 kilometers,” he explained.
“I assure you that, under the President’s directive, work will commence by Monday,” he concluded, directing that all necessary measures be completed by mid-December.
