A tragic accident unfolded in the Mile 2 area of Lagos on Sunday, October 6, when a pedestrian was severely injured by a speeding driver.
The driver, operating a Toyota Camry with registration number KTU 447 EV, was heading towards Mile 2 when the incident occurred near Ewenla/Charity, close to Oshodi.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that their officers swiftly responded to the scene and provided immediate assistance to the injured pedestrian, who sustained severe bodily injuries. The driver was promptly apprehended for reckless driving.
In a statement, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, explained, “In a harrowing incident that occurred today (Sunday), the driver of a Toyota Camry, bearing the registration number KTU 447 EV, recklessly sped through a busy section of Ewenla/Charity near Oshodi, heading towards Mile 2. Tragically, the driver’s negligent actions resulted in the grievous injury of a pedestrian.”
The pedestrian was rushed to Comfort Hospital in Mafoluku, Oshodi, for urgent medical attention. LASTMA officials, after apprehending the driver at the scene, handed him and the vehicle over to the Mafoluku Police Station for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
In the aftermath of the incident, LASTMA officials reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic laws and urged road users to exercise caution to safeguard the lives of pedestrians and other motorists.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended his wishes for the victim’s speedy recovery, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to enforcing road safety to prevent such incidents from recurring.
