A Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti, on Friday, ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Damilare Oladele, at a correctional centre for the alleged murder of his grandmother.
The defendant is being charged with murder following an incident on September 26 in Ado-Ekiti, where it is alleged he caused the death of his 72-year-old grandmother, Ige Oladele.
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the unfortunate event occurred around 1:30 p.m.
The defendant reportedly pushed his grandmother after she told him she was hungry, and in response, he told her she was disturbing him. This push led to her death.
“The offence contravenes Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021,” Oriyomi stated, urging the court to remand the accused while awaiting legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was not taken during the session.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered that Damilare Oladele be remanded at the correctional facility, pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP.
The case was subsequently adjourned to November 11 for mention.
