The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to  dissolve the Barrister Sunday Adeniyi led interim Committee on Road Transport Unions immediately after  the expiration of its tenure with a view to maintaining peace and tranquility in the State.

Tropic Reporters gathered that the Assembly unanimously appealed to the State government to reconstitute the relevant statutory board to address the issues of transport unions in the State.

The passage of the resolution followed a motion moved by the Chief Whip, Atinuke Bello, seconded by Sylvester Abiodun and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote, shortly after lawmakers took turn to complain about the activities of the Interim Transportation Committee, shortly after Hon. Bello Atinuke reported the alleged unfair treatment meted on her by the Commitee Chairman, Barr Adeniyi infringing on her privileges and against the terms of reference of the Commitee.

Corroborating Bello’s view, other members in their separate submissions who took turn to narrate their encounter with the Chairman accusing him of abuse of power, high-handedness and disrespect to the legislative arm while acting beyond the terms of reference of the Commitee as spelt out by  Governor Dapo Abiodun upon the Committee’s inauguration.

Responding, the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo directed the Ag. Clerk, Deji Adeyemo to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to the Secretary to the State Government with an invitation to the Chairman and Secretary of the Committee to appear before the Whole House on Thursday, 29th August, 2019 at 2: 00pm to clarify allegations bordering on disrespect to the legislative arm levelled against him amongst other allegations.

In the same vein, the Assembly also appealed to the State Comptroller of Customs to prevail on the men and officers in the Command to discharge their duty with utmost decorum and avoid any form of molestation of farmers and traders in border areas of the State in the guise of preventing contraband goods.

Tropic Reporters further gathered that the Speaker made the appeal following complaints from Honourables Jemili Akingbade representing Imeko-Afon, Adegoke Adeyanju, Yewa North I, his Yewa North II counterpart, Aruna Wahab and Sikiratu Ajibola Ipokia State Constituency, who all spoke under personal explanation on the travails of the constituents in the hands of security agencies in the border towns.

Oluomo stated that the security agents should rather mount the entry point of the nation’s border and stop harassing farmers doing their legitimate business  and seizing their farm produce.
