…Speeding Bus Collides with Parked Truck in Abule Osun, 3 Others Injured
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the tragic loss of 10 lives, including that of a child, following a fatal road accident in the Abule Osun area.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, with reports reaching the agency at 11:07 p.m., prompting a swift response by the Dolphin Response Team from its Igando Base.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Wednesday, detailing that the crash took place on the Abule Osun route heading towards Iyana-Iba, Lagos.
“In response to some distress calls received through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines at 23.07hrs, LASEMA activated its Dolphin Response Team from Igando Base,” the statement noted.
“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a bus, registration number BDG 342 FS, with passengers coming from the eastern part of the country, rammed into a parked truck.”
The truck, which had been laden with granite, was parked on the road, partially obstructing the carriageway. According to further investigations, the bus, which was traveling at high speed, collided with the parked vehicle, resulting in the immediate death of 10 passengers.
“The bus, which was on top speed, rammed into the parked truck from behind, killing 10 people instantly, including a child,” the agency confirmed.
Three Passengers Critically Injured
In addition to the fatalities, three passengers sustained critical injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was reported to have facilitated the transfer of the injured passengers before LASEMA’s full arrival at the scene.
“The injured passengers who were reportedly rescued were taken to a nearby hospital by the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps before the arrival of the agency,” the statement continued.
Meanwhile, the deceased victims have been handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for proper handling. The recovery operation is still ongoing, and relevant authorities remain on-site to manage the situation.
LASEMA continues to urge drivers to exercise caution, adhere to road safety rules, and avoid excessive speeding, especially when navigating congested or poorly lit roadways.
