…Commits to Enhancing Tourism in Ogun State Through Security and Infrastructure Investment

In a bid to promote and enhance development in the tourism sector, the Ogun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing investments in security, infrastructure, and human capital development to attract investors to the state.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun made this assurance during the 2024 World Tourism Day celebration held at the Herbert Ogunde Hall, Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun emphasized that tourism encompasses various economic activities that thrive in a peaceful environment.

He noted that his administration would prioritize safety, positioning Ogun as a premier destination for tourism.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor highlighted tourism’s potential to generate jobs, foster unity, and serve as a platform for sustaining peace.

He called for increased partnership with the private sector to bolster the state’s tourism initiatives.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Olusesan Fagbayi, delivered remarks on behalf of the UN Secretary General, noting that this year’s theme, “Tourism and Peace,” was chosen to highlight the deep connection between tourism and peace.

Fagbayi emphasized the importance of valuing and preserving both cultural and natural heritage, which can help alleviate tensions and promote global peaceful coexistence.

Earlier, Dr. Yusuff Quudus, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, described World Tourism Day as an opportunity to reflect on tourism’s significant impact on society—economically, socially, and culturally.

In a presentation titled “Tourism and Peace: A Pathway to Global Harmony and Economic Prosperity,” Dr. Ibrahim Kukoyi, a lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, stressed the vital role of tourism in creating a more inclusive and peaceful world.

He advocated for embracing sustainable and responsible tourism practices that encourage cultural exchange and support economic development, harnessing tourism’s power to build a better future for all.

Dr. Kukoyi commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government for its dedication to celebrating World Tourism Day and promoting tourism in Ogun State.

Other speakers at the event included Prince Abiola Ogundeko, CEO of First Heritage Culture and Hospitality Limited, and Hon. Odunuga Olusegun Kaka, Chairman of the House Committee on Culture and Tourism, who also shared their insights on the importance of tourism in the state.
