Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has hailed the movie *Lisabi: The Uprising* as a vivid depiction of the heroic bravery, resilience, and determination that have defined the Egba people over the years.

The governor made this remark during the premiere of the film at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, acknowledging how the trials of the past and the challenges of the present have united the Egba community in overcoming obstacles.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun praised the film for reviving the story of Lisabi, the legendary 19th-century Yoruba hero who led a successful resistance against the Oyo Empire’s oppressive rule.

He noted that the tale of Lisabi holds great relevance for contemporary challenges, underscoring the power of unity and the importance of standing up for justice.

“Lisabi’s legacy is one of immense courage, patriotism, and exemplary leadership. His story resonates deeply with our current aspirations as a people and serves as a reminder of the importance of unity,” the governor stated.

He added that the traditions and values passed down by Egba ancestors continue to shape the Yoruba people’s identity and will endure for generations.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving Ogun State’s rich cultural heritage, noting the role of storytelling in fostering communal living and strengthening social identity.

He emphasized the importance of learning from history, saying, “Our ancestors left behind values that have shaped our collective identity, and we must continue to uphold those traditions.”

The governor urged citizens to draw inspiration from Lisabi’s bravery by taking ownership of development initiatives, educating themselves on their rights, and promoting peaceful coexistence and active citizenship.

“It is our duty to ensure that we not only sustain the legacy of our forebears but also contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.

Governor Abiodun also congratulated the producer of *Lisabi: The Uprising*, Mr. Lateef Adedimeji, for his tireless efforts in bringing Egba history to life through the film.

He commended the movie’s role in cultural preservation, affirming that his administration prioritizes cultural revival, social justice, and community development.

Earlier, Mr. Adedimeji explained that premiering the movie in Abeokuta was necessary given the city’s unique position in tourism and Ogun State’s significant strides in creative arts, culture, and tourism under the *ISEYA* mantra.

He expressed his commitment to showcasing the social and cultural heritage of Ogun State and called on stakeholders in the film industry to continue highlighting Nigeria’s rich cultural history.
