The Federal Government has suspended several prison officers in charge of the Maximum and Minimum Custodial Centres, Kirikiri, Lagos State, following allegations involving cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

Bobrisky, convicted of a crime and sentenced to six months in jail, was reportedly provided with an apartment outside the custodial facility.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 26, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), confirmed the suspensions.

He emphasized that the suspension is intended to allow a thorough investigation into the allegations, assuring that “the outcome would be made public when concluded.”

Ahmed specifically mentioned that the suspended officers include Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State, and Sikiru Adekunle, DCC in charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos State.

Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly escorting a convicted inmate out of the custodial centre.

The statement further revealed another suspension of a senior officer, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja.

He was suspended for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.

The suspensions follow an audio leak and viral video on social media, which sparked public outcry over the alleged preferential treatment of Bobrisky.
