Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents impacted by the Ibadan Circular Road project that no additional demolitions of houses or properties will occur along the route.
Speaking on Monday to a group of protesters gathered at the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, the governor reaffirmed that all existing structures within the 150-meter corridor of the project would be integrated into the government’s plans.
The assurance from Governor Makinde came after protesters expressed concerns about the potential for further demolitions, particularly in light of rumors that the road corridor would be extended to 500 meters, which they feared would lead to additional property losses.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesters pleaded with the government to halt any expansion that might threaten their homes.
In response, Makinde firmly stated, “There will be no further demolitions, and no new developments, including the construction of buildings or foundations, should occur within the designated corridor.”
He further emphasized that the welfare of residents affected by the project remains a priority for his administration. “We are committed to ensuring that those who have already been impacted by the project will not face further disruptions,” he reassured.
The Ibadan Circular Road project, a key initiative aimed at boosting infrastructure in Oyo State, has raised concerns among residents about its impact on local communities.
However, Makinde’s pledge to incorporate existing structures and prevent additional demolitions seeks to ease the worries of those living in the affected areas.
