Neighbor Arrested for Mutilating Body of Dead Neighbor’s Child in Ogun

Sagamu, Ogun State – In a shocking and disturbing incident, Ogidan Mustapha has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly severing the hands of his neighbor’s deceased 13-year-old child, Oriyomi Adegboyega.

The gruesome discovery was made on Friday, September 20, 2024, at about 1:30 am, when Mustapha was caught by vigilante operatives while attempting to dump the wrapped body near the Igbosoro River in Igode village.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, “An intelligence source from a sister security agency alerted the divisional police officer of Igode that on the 20th of September 2024, at about 0130hrs, they trailed a suspicious movement to a bush around Igbosoro River and caught one Ogidan Mustapha dumping a corpse.”

Upon closer inspection, the vigilante operatives found the corpse wrapped in a mat, with both hands amputated. The victim was identified as Oriyomi Adegboyega, a 13-year-old girl who had died from electrocution the previous day.

Oriyomi’s mother, Peace Adegboyega, expressed shock and grief, stating, “My daughter died from electrocution, and we were planning her burial. I never imagined that our neighbor could be involved in such a terrible act.”

A search of Mustapha’s residence yielded two pump-action rifles and various local charms. Three other suspects, believed to have assisted in digging the grave, were also arrested.

During interrogation, Mustapha denied amputating Oriyomi’s hands but claimed that the girl’s father, Sunday Adegboyega, had asked for his assistance in burying her far away from home.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and likely prosecution, while the police assured thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved.

As police collaboration with Vigilante operatives aided the arrest of the culprits in connection to unethical herbalist practices.

According to information received from an intelligence source, the divisional police officer of Igode was informed that on the 20th of September 2024, at about 1:30 AM, suspicious activity was noticed in a bush near the Igbosoro river in Igode village.

Ogidan Mustapha was apprehended while dumping a wrapped corpse in a mat in the area.

Upon closer inspection by vigilante operatives, it was discovered that the corpse was a young girl, one Oriyomi Gboyega ‘f’ 13 year old with both of her hands amputated and wrapped in a mat before being discarded near the river.

Upon contacting the mother, one Peace Adegboyega ‘F’, she stated that her daughter had died from electrocution on the 19th of September 2024 at about 10:20 AM, and arrangements were being made for her burial the following day. She expressed shock upon learning that their neighbour, Ogidan, was found with the amputated body of her daughter in the bush.

A search warrant was executed at Ogidan Mustapha’s residence by the Divisional Police Officer and the Vigilante group. Two English pump action rifles and various local charms were recovered in his house.

During police interrogation and questioning, the suspect denied amputating the 13 year-old girl but confessed that the girl’s father, one Sunday Adegboyega, had asked him to help bury the deceased far from home. Three other suspects of northern origin who assisted in digging the grave were also arrested.

Further information on the case will be provided, and those arrested will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
