Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum to view the recent devastating flood in the state as a challenge to demonstrate his “good leadership qualities” in managing crisis situations.

In a message of sympathy to Governor Zulum, shared by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo expressed deep sympathy for the significant loss of lives and property caused by the disaster.

He noted that while seasonal flooding is common in various parts of Nigeria, it is during such crises that the true qualities of leadership and courage are revealed.

Obasanjo remarked, “It is usually in the midst of disasters of this nature that the qualities of good leadership and courage become manifest,” highlighting the severe impact of the recent flooding.

He described the disaster as one of the most devastating incidents in recent times, pointing out the extensive damage to human lives, crops, farmlands, livestock, buildings, and personal belongings.

He commended Governor Zulum and the Borno State Government for their prompt and effective response, stating, “Permit me, therefore, to commend you and the Government of Borno State for the swiftness and efficacy with which you rose to the challenge, giving every possible support in your continued efforts to provide succour to those who have been dislocated.”

Obasanjo also extended his heartfelt condolences to the Borno State government and the families of the deceased, praying that “the Almighty Allah” provides comfort and strength to those affected.
