Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has revealed that his administration’s intervention in federal roads across the state is aimed at easing the transportation challenges faced by residents.

Speaking on Saturday during an inspection of ongoing projects, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the necessity of state involvement in federal roadworks to ensure smooth travel within and between states.

During his visit, Governor Oyebanji inspected the Ado–Iworoko–Ifaki road construction and a medical complex project at the State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

He noted that the road project, which will cost over fifteen billion naira, is crucial for the state, despite being under federal jurisdiction.

The governor explained that the road is predominantly used by Ekiti residents, prompting the state government to address its poor condition to benefit the local populace.

The governor stressed the road’s significance to the state’s economic and social fabric, as it facilitates the movement of goods and services and connects Ekiti to northern Nigeria.

He highlighted the road’s deteriorated state as a major concern for his administration.

Governor Oyebanji underscored his government’s focus on roads with substantial economic benefits, particularly those that link communities and support trade.

He expressed optimism that the state might receive compensation from the federal government upon project completion, which would encourage further state involvement in federal road repairs.

Additionally, the governor visited the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, where ongoing construction aims to enhance the facility’s capacity and ensure high-quality, affordable healthcare for Ekiti residents.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, Governor Oyebanji anticipated that the upgrades would significantly improve healthcare services in the state.

The governor concluded by affirming the state’s commitment to completing the road project promptly, reflecting on the continuity of efforts initiated by his predecessor, Governor Kayode Fayemi.

He acknowledged the support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which has enabled the state to undertake such large-scale infrastructure projects.

“Our immediate goal is to finish the road construction on time and make it accessible for the people,” Governor Oyebanji stated, emphasizing the project’s importance to the state’s development.
