The Yobe State government has confirmed the deaths of four individuals due to acute diarrhoea in Gujba Local Government Area.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Health, Lawan Gana, during a press briefing in Damaturu, the state capital, on Monday.

According to Mr. Gana, the disease was detected in the Jangalawaji and Tadandara settlements, both located within Gujba Ward. These areas were recently impacted by severe flooding, which is believed to have contributed to the outbreak.

The commissioner reassured the public that samples from the affected individuals have been collected and are undergoing laboratory analysis.

He emphasized that the government is taking all necessary steps to manage the situation and prevent further spread of the disease.

Mr. Gana urged residents not to panic, assuring them that the situation is under control. He also refuted rumors of a cholera outbreak in both Gujba and Ngelzarma, stating that only laboratory results can confirm the nature of the disease.

The government continues to monitor the situation closely, as health officials work to contain the spread of the illness and provide medical assistance to affected communities.
