In a bid to resolve the lingering boundary disputes between Ogun, Oyo, and Osun States, the Ogun State House of Assembly has initiated a peace parley with its Oyo State counterpart.
The meeting, held at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta, was jointly chaired by the Deputy Speakers of both states, Honourables Lateefat Ajayi and Muhammed Fadeyi.
Ogun State Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, emphasized that the boundary issues are a “family matter” that can be resolved amicably.
He commended the Oyo Assembly for their visit and stressed the need for unity, peaceful coexistence, and development in the Southwest.
The meeting aimed to find a lasting solution to the boundary conflicts between Oyo and Ogun States, involving communities such as Ibarapa East and Ibarapa Central.
Oyo State Deputy Speaker, Hon. Fadeyi, explained that the issue was raised under a matter of urgent public importance on the floor of the Oyo State House of Assembly, prompting the need for a joint legislative approach.
Contributions from members, representatives of the State Ministry of Justice, and affected communities highlighted the progress made in resolving the issues in the past.
The involvement of officials from the National Boundary Commission is expected to facilitate a joint physical verification of the disputed sites.
The parley concluded with a call for calm among residents of the affected communities, assuring them that the governors of both states would be notified of the progress made.
