President Bola Tinubu has authorized the initiation of the 2024 National Honours Award, aimed at recognizing both Nigerians and international friends who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the country.

Mr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, revealed this decision during a meeting with the ministry’s management staff in Abuja on Tuesday.

Jisalo emphasized that the Federal Government is dedicated to honoring individuals who have excelled in their various fields and made substantial impacts on the nation.

“We are eager to celebrate those who have made exceptional contributions in their areas of expertise, significantly advancing our country and its people,” Jisalo said.

The minister further clarified that the process for receiving national honours is entirely free of charge. He cautioned the public against falling victim to any schemes that might request payments for the awards.

“It is crucial to understand that there are no fees associated with the forms or processes for the National Honours Award. We strongly advise against engaging with any fraudulent schemes asking for money,” Jisalo warned.

Jisalo also urged the public to stay alert for announcements regarding the nomination process. “We encourage everyone to be vigilant and submit nominations for those who have made notable contributions to our nation. This initiative follows the National Honours Award Act of 2004, which has been applied retroactively from 1963,” he added.
