Popular fintech company Opay has once again left its over 40 million customers stranded due to an unexplained application glitch, barely a month after users complained of funds disappearing without a trace.

On September 3, 2024, many customers faced repeated transaction failures without any explanation from the company, which promotes itself as a platform for quick and easy payments. This incident has raised concerns about Opay’s reliability, as customers were unable to make or receive payments, forcing some to turn to alternative fintech apps like Moniepoint and Palmpay.

One frustrated customer shared, “I went to bokku mart to buy some goods, and since I don’t have an ATM card, I usually rely on Opay because it’s been easy to use. But I was embarrassed when my payment failed, and I couldn’t even see my transaction history, though my account was debited. It was like the money just disappeared.”

Another customer recounted his experience when trying to purchase food for his baby: “I was at the supermarket, and after picking up the items, my payment was pending for hours. I thought it was a network issue, so I switched data lines, but nothing changed. I had to go back home to get my ATM card so my baby wouldn’t starve.”

This issue comes just a month after a similar incident with Opay. Despite the growing frustration among users, the company has yet to issue a statement explaining the cause of the glitch.

Many customers have taken to social media to express their frustration, with one user stating, “I made a transfer, and the money was debited twice but not credited, and now there’s no record of it in my transaction history. What’s going on?”

Another user tweeted, “This is unacceptable! I transferred 10,000 to my Opay account, and the amount has vanished without a trace. There’s no receipt or transaction history. I demand an explanation!”
