In a bid to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment, the Lagos State Government has arrested nine individuals for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area of the state.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the arrests were made on Friday by Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps. “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night,” Wahab disclosed in a post on Saturday.

This is not the first time the state government has taken action against open defecation. On Thursday night, 17 individuals were arrested at Berger for open urination, defecation, and not using the pedestrian bridge. Wahab had earlier announced the arrests, emphasizing the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on open defecation.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has also commenced cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its effort to end open defecation. The state government’s efforts aim to promote a culture of cleanliness and sustainability among residents.

“We will continue to work towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all residents,” Wahab said. “Open defecation is a menace that we must tackle head-on, and we will not hesitate to take action against those who engage in it.”
