The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that Technical Director Coach Augustine Eguavoen will take charge of the Super Eagles, following the collapse of the deal with Coach Bruno Labbadia due to German tax regulations.

According to a statement by NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the federation had reached an agreement in principle with Labbadia before the tax issue arose.

“We have been on the tax issue for the past three days, and I told him clearly that there was no way the NFF would agree to offset the concomitant tax percentage on his salary that will be demanded by German tax authorities,” Gusau explained.

Gusau revealed that the NFF had agreed to pay Labbadia’s monthly wage, but the coach insisted that the federation also pay the tax amount, ranging from 32% to 40% of his salary. “We simply cannot do that,” Gusau stated.

Eguavoen will now lead the Super Eagles in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
