Osigwe Takes Over as NBA President, Promises Accountability

Afam Osigwe, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been sworn in as the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at a ceremony in Lagos on Thursday. Osigwe will lead the association for the next two years, alongside other newly inaugurated national officers.

In his inaugural speech, Osigwe commended his opponents, Tobenna Erojikwe and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chukwukwa Ikwazom, for their conduct during the election and extended an olive branch to them to join him in moving the association forward. He promised to run an inclusive bar that promotes unity and progress.

Osigwe also pledged to hold federal and state governments accountable, ensuring their policies deliver good governance to the people. He takes over from immediate past president, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yakubu Maikyau.

The inauguration marks the culmination of the week-long annual general conference of the NBA, which began on August 23rd. Osigwe’s speech is ongoing at the time of this report.
