Two Friends in Court for Alleged Theft of Armoured Cables in Abuja

Hassan Abubakar, 35, and Joefrey Micah, 23, were arraigned before a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja on Thursday for allegedly stealing armoured cable wires. They were charged with criminal conspiracy, mischief, and theft.

The prosecution counsel, Donatus Abah, told the court that the defendants were caught in the act and arrested on July 29 after the FCT commissioner of Police received a distress call.

Investigation revealed that the defendants had been stealing armoured cables since 2023 and sold them to Ikenna Iwuchukwu and Monday Anowau.

The defendants denied committing the offence, despite making a confessional statement to the police. Magistrate Ekpenyong Okon admitted them to bail in the sum of N1 million each with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned until October 14 for hearing.

The offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 97, 327, and 287 of the Penal Code.
