Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner, Waheed Ayilara, Dies After Surgery

The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away. He died on Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, Lagos, after undergoing prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday.

Ayilara had attended a retirement and birthday ceremony of senior police officers in Lagos on Wednesday before his surgery. His death occurred hours after the event.

The late Commissioner took over the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force in February. He had previously served as acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report.

Ayilara’s death comes as a shock to the police force and the public, and he will be remembered for his service to the nation.
