Imo State Govt Signs MoU with Orashi Electricity for Statewide Power Distribution

The Imo State Government has taken a significant step towards launching its “Light Up Imo Project” by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Orashi Electricity Company Limited.

The agreement aims to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity across all 27 local government areas in the state.

The MoU was signed at the Governor’s Office in Owerri by Engr. Nwabueze Oguchienti, Commissioner for Power, and Mr. Basil Okolie, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, on behalf of the state government. Orashi Electricity Company Limited was represented by General Manager Mr. Valentine Obunmeyan and Mr. Mohammed Sahid.

The agreement involves the rehabilitation, expansion, operation, and maintenance of electricity infrastructure throughout the state.

Governor Hope Uzodimma emphasized the project’s importance, stating that it marks the beginning of efforts to provide consistent electricity to all 27 LGAs in Imo State.

He urged the Ministry of Power to ensure steady power supply to urban areas by year-end and promised that the government would meet its obligations under the agreement.

Governor Uzodimma highlighted the significance of reliable power supply in revitalizing industries, attracting new investments, creating jobs, and improving business conditions.

He expressed confidence in the project’s success, despite anticipated costs, and noted that it would help restore Imo State’s reputation as a tourism hub in the South-East zone.
