The Force headquarters on Saturday morning confirmed the rescue of the 20 medical students and others kidnapped in Benue state one week ago who were on their way to Enugu state for a programme.
The Force headquarters also emphasized that no ransom was paid to any bandit or terrorists for the rescue as it was strictly a security operation conducted under the supervision of the office of the National Security Adviser.
Recall that the medical students were kidnapped along the Otukpo-Enugu federal highway in Otukpo local government area of Benue State, on their way to Enugu State to attend a conference.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi in A statement titled, ‘Release of 20 medical students and others’, said, “We confirm the release of our brothers and sisters and some other Nigerians who have been in captivity on Friday 23rd August 2024 in Ntunkon forest, Benue State”.
“Without any ransom paid”.
“Contrary to some tweets and unconfirmed stories that some money was paid, no kobo was paid to release them”.
“They were actually rescued tactically and professionally.
“We commend the security agencies, locals, and ONSA for their commitment and resilience.
“Thanks to you all. More details soon.”
It was gathered that the security operation coordinated by ONSA comprised security agencies of the police, DSS, and military personnel and equipment.
Meanwhile, officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in a well-coordinated effort, have apprehended Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, on allegations of committing serious offenses that undermine the integrity of government operations.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Adejobi said, “The arrest took place on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room in Rivers State.
“There are several allegations levelled against the suspect, including unlawful possession, leakages of classified documents, cyber-related offenses, and others.
“We will do due diligence in carrying out thorough investigation into the cases.
“The force will leave no stone unturned to continually enforce the law and bequeath to Nigerians a more secure nation.
