Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf conducted an on-site assessment of the damaged Kano State High Court, which was vandalized and looted during the recent nationwide protests.

He expressed regret over the destruction, stating, “It is very unfortunate that enemies of Kano State hired undesirable elements to vandalize one of the historic public buildings with a mission to subvert the corruption charges against the acting National Chairman of the APC and former governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his family, and aides.”

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, reported that the hoodlums caused over N1 billion in damages, stealing office equipment, destroying offices, burning cars, and taking crucial materials for justice dispensation.

Governor Yusuf urged youths to refrain from violence and focus on skills acquisition, promising government support. He ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the courthouse and increased security for effective justice delivery.

The governor commiserated with the Kano State Chief Judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, and the judiciary over the incident. He appreciated the state’s people for their support and cooperation, praying for continued peace, stability, and prosperity.

The state high court management had earlier condemned the invasion, vandalism, and burning of the court, initiating an investigation to track down the perpetrators.

The court’s spokesperson, Baba Ibrahim, reported that the rioters stole an unspecified amount of money and guns seized from kidnappers, vandalized offices, and destroyed case files and exhibits.
