Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has expressed disappointment and dismay over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nationwide address on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Onuesoke described the broadcast as a “complete waste of time” and an “embarrassment to Nigerians”.

According to Onuesoke, the president’s address failed to provide a plan to end the importation of refined petroleum products and get the country’s refineries operational.

Additionally, Onuesoke criticized the president for not addressing the urgent need to tackle rising inflation, which has led to increased prices of food, fuel, and commodities, resulting in widespread hunger and poverty among Nigerians.

“President Tinubu has shown that he lacks the capacity and political will to stop importation of fuel and refined products, which is to the benefit of few cabals holding the country to ransom.

“President Tinubu has also proven to Nigerians that he is not interested in getting our refineries to work which he never made mentioned of in his speech.

“The Federal Government led by President Tinubu appears overwhelmed and do not have solutions to the lingering banditry, kidnapping, farmers and herdsmen crisis leading to shortage of farm produce.”

The chairman of Onuesoke Foundation further criticised the President’s failure to tackle the insecurity in parts of the country.

He advised Tinubu to give full support to Dangote Refinery and other functioning private refineries to produce sufficient refined products.

“The president, being the Minister of Petroleum, must get the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna Refineries to start work as soon as possible bring the prices of fuel down as that is the only way to drop the inflation.”

Onuesoke’s scathing critique reflects the concerns of many Nigerians who were hoping for concrete solutions to the country’s pressing challenges, but felt let down by the president’s address.
