Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Golden Stars, has emerged champions of the Oba Saka Matemilola Football Competition, defeating Ultimate Bombers 3-0 in the final match held at M.K.O Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
In a novelty match, Nigerian Customs beat Nigerian Civil Defense 2-1, while D Peace secured third place after a penalty shootout against Goal Driven.
The Golden Stars will be rewarded with a dinner with His Royal Majesty, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, on Tuesday, July 30. Sanyaolu Mujeeb of the Golden Stars was named MVP and highest goal scorer with six goals, while Coach Joshua Anibi of Dominion Stars was awarded the best coach.
Five players – Lolade Oketokun, Lateef Bankole, Adeyemi Abiodun, Orobiyi Korede, and Soleye Vincent – received scholarships. The Bonfree Joe Organization presented cash gifts to the MVP and best coach, while Goal Driven FC received a personal gift from His Royal Majesty.
Notable personalities in attendance included Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, Hon. Commissioner for Forestry Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, and other dignitaries.
