…Debunks Rumors of Monthly Sanitation
The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports of reintroducing monthly environmental sanitation and movement restrictions starting in July.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, labeled the rumors as “fake news” spread by mischief makers aiming to confuse residents.
Wahab clarified that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise, not a monthly sanitation exercise. The initiative encourages residents to voluntarily clean their environment, led by state government officials.
The commissioner urged residents to disregard the false reports and continue their daily activities without restrictions on the last Saturday of July.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment and encouraged residents to adopt a culture of regular cleaning, rather than waiting for government directives.
He said: “The governor’s announcement was clear; we’re starting a weekly community-based sensitization exercise, not a monthly sanitation exercise”.
“We urge residents to voluntarily clean their environment and join us in this effort. Let’s work together to keep our state clean.”
“Residents should disregard the fake news and go about their lawful businesses without fear of movement restrictions”.
“We’ll continue to work towards a cleaner and healthier Lagos for all”, Wahab added.
