The Ogun State House of Assembly has taken a significant step towards improving the state’s education system by advancing a bill to establish the office of Principal-General.

The bill, which scaled through its second reading, aims to provide a legal framework for the appointment of four Principals-General in the state, enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

Lawmakers debated the bill, H.B No. 016/OG/2024, and praised its potential to boost teachers’ morale and career progression.

The sponsor, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, emphasized the need for a legal framework to support the existing executive order establishing the office of Principals-General.

The bill was commended by lawmakers, including Honourables Yusuf Amosun, Babatunde Tella, Adebisi Oyedele, and Oluseun Adesanya, who acknowledged its potential to improve education administration and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, committed the bill to the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology for further review.

In a related development, the Speaker commended the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, for his contributions to good governance and human development, particularly the establishment of a Professorial Chair in Governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University.
