The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Anambra State Chapter, initiated an indefinite strike on Monday due to the state government’s failure to implement the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS).

Visits by NAN correspondents to the High Courts at Ekwueme Square, Chief Magistrate’s Courts, and Customary Courts in Amawbia, Awka, revealed a complete halt in court proceedings. The premises were devoid of magistrates, judges, and court staff, with only security personnel present.

Lawyers and litigants were turned away as entrance gates remained locked.

Speaking to NAN, Mr. Henry Ezeoke, State Chairman of JUSUN, explained that the strike was a response to the state government’s non-compliance with agreements reached in 2011 and 2015 regarding the implementation of CONJUS.

“The state government’s refusal to honor the CONJUS agreement prompted this action. Despite issuing a 21-day ultimatum which was ignored, we have now resorted to strike action as the government has failed to meet our demands,” Ezeoke stated.

The strike will continue indefinitely until the government fulfills its obligations, pending further directives from the union.
