On Wednesday, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command arrested 32 suspected criminals in Abuja for various offenses. The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced this in a statement on Thursday.
The arrests were made following a raid on identified black spots and suspected criminal hideouts in areas such as Apo by Tarabora, Angwa Tiv by Zone E extension, and the fish market in Apo resettlement, Abuja.
SP Adeh explained that these locations had previously served as hideouts for scavengers, commonly known as Baban Bola, and other hoodlums disrupting the peace in Nigeria’s capital.
Among the 32 suspects arrested were two females, apprehended for offenses ranging from dealing in illicit substances to constructing illegal structures and shanties. The security operatives dismantled these illegal structures during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspects included mobile phones suspected to be stolen, dried leaves believed to be marijuana (Cannabis sativa), and tools used for housebreaking.
SP Adeh assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
She emphasized that all suspects would be screened, and those found guilty would be “profiled and arraigned in court” to discourage other criminals from using these areas as a base.
