A social media influencer and blogger, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan has been rearrested by the Nigerian police.

His lawyer, Mr Deji Adeyanju on Sunday disclosed that his client has again been arrested, adding that VeryDarkMan was apprehended for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad.

In a post on his X account on Sunday, Adeyanju said, “Our client, @thatverydarkman has just been arrested by the police on the instruction of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad.

“Instead of the police to arrest the person alleged to have duped someone, they arrested VDM on allegation of defamation.”

It was learnt that the influencer was arrested on the orders of Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Mr Benneth Igwe.

On Monday, June 10, 2024, SaharaReporters reported that a Federal High Court in Abuja had granted bail to the social media influencer.

The blogger was subsequently released from police custody after satisfying his bail condition.

On Wednesday, May 22, SaharaReporters reported that it had obtained the police charge sheets saying VeryDarkMan was arraigned on five counts bordering on cyberstalking.

The police prosecuting team told Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court that they needed more time to respond to the application and they were subsequently obliged by the court.

The police prosecution moved to have the blogger remanded in prison but his lawyers made an application for him to be kept in police custody.

The court granted their request and he was subsequently taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.
