FG Says HIV/AIDS Has Been Reduced By 30% In Nigeria

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS, NACA says there is a gradual reduction in the infection of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

Director General of the Agency, Temitope Ilori made the disclosure at the opening session of the National Prevention Technical Working group meeting held in Abuja, on Wednesday.

Ilori stated that over 75,000 HIV/ AIDS death related was recorded since June 2023 till date, adding that over 70,000 new infections were detected.

She noted that there’s is drastic reduction in the spread by 35% compared to the 75%recorded in the year 2023.

The Director General sought for more Advocacy to reduce the scourge to achieve the aim of ending HIV/AIDS by the year 2030 while advising Nigerians to always protect themselves against the scourge as prevention is better than cure.

Other Stakeholders present at the meeting stressed the need to strengthen prevention control and to work on traditional prevention models such as advocacy, communication, condom usage against the scourge.
