Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the Interim Committee on Road Transport Unions led Barr. Sunday Adeniyi, set up by the State Government to work with integrity and transparency in line with the mandate given to it by government to ensure peace in the transport sector in the State.
In the same vein, the Assembly also advised the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to immediately constitute the State Park and Garages Development Board (PAGADEB) to further strengthen the transport sector in the State.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo made the appeal, while responding to the submissions of members including the Deputy Speaker Oludare Kadiri, Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju, Yusuf Adejojo and Damilola Soneye under personal explanation that it had become expedient for the State to ensure that the Committee work within the framework of its terms of reference to promote peace and tranquility across the State.
Oluomo noted that the Assembly had received several petitions from members of the public against some of the members of the Transport Committee, cautioning them on the need to work for the peace and progress of the State.
On the constitution of the PAGADEB, the Speaker hinted that being the statutory Board responsible for all issues relating to the Transport sector, it would help bring sanity into the activities of the sector in the State.
The Assembly also urged all revenue generating Agencies and security apparatus in the State to immediately set machineries in motion to block revenue leackages ocassioned by illegal revenue collectors in some parts of the State, especially in areas considered as major revenue points in the State.
The Speaker made the call in response to the submission of a lawmaker representing Ado-Odo Ota II State Constituency, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, who lamented the spate of illegal toll collect along Atan- Lusada road by unauthorised individuals.
He explained that the Assembly as partner in progress was committed to exposing corrupt practices, waste and inefficiency, stressing that the State’s scarce financial resources meant for the overall development of the State should be safeguard from going into wrong hands.
