Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fell today while inspecting the guard of honor at Eagle Square in Abuja, during the June 12 celebration marking 25 years of democracy in Nigeria.
According to a viral video, the 72-year-old president lost his balance and fell as he was entering the parade inspection vehicle to review the guard of honor.
His security personnel quickly rushed to assist him, helping him back to his feet.
The incident has raised concerns about the president’s health, but in his reaction, Presidential Aide, Olusegun Dada, has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s brief slip at the Eagles Square, Abuja, during the 2024 June 12 Democracy Day celebration.
Reacting via his verified X handle, @DOlusegun, Special Assistant on Social Media to the president wrote on Wednesday:
“Mr President missed his step while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. It was a mild misstep. He immediately went on with the ceremony rounds. No issues.”
President Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, was sworn in as the 16th President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in May 2023.
The June 12 celebration is a significant event in Nigeria’s political history, commemorating the country’s transition to democracy in 1999.
Despite the incident, the celebrations continue, with dignitaries and Nigerians from all walks of life in attendance.
