Protesters have taken to the streets of Gaya, one of the five emirates affected by the recent repeal of the Kano Emirates Council Law, to express their discontent with the dissolution of the emirate.

The repeal, which was announced by Governor Abba Yusuf on Thursday, led to the dissolution of the four additional emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, including Gaya.

Despite the initial peaceful handover of power by the dethroned Emir, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, on Thursday night, residents of Gaya took to the streets on Sunday morning to reject the dissolution of the emirate.

The protesters, wielding placards and chanting anti-government slogans, alleged that the move has political undertones and is a miscarriage of justice.

The situation is currently tense, with a heavy presence of armed security personnel in the area.

Details of the protests and any further developments will be provided as they become available.
