Tukur Mamu, the alleged terrorist negotiator standing trial for terrorism offenses, has applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja to be transferred from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody to Kuje Prison.
Mamu’s lawyer, Abdul Mohammed, argued that the DSS has failed to comply with the court’s order to allow Mamu access to his personal physician for medical treatment.
According to Mamu, he was allowed to see his physician only once, and a comprehensive medical examination report was submitted to the DSS.
However, the physician has not been allowed to access him since then, and Mamu urgently needs surgical operations at any hospital in the country.
Mamu claimed that his health has deteriorated significantly and that he may lose his life if he is not moved out of DSS custody to Kuje prison.
The defendant promised to attend his trial regularly if transferred to Kuje prison, emphasizing that he can only stand trial if he is alive. Justice Inyang Ekwo has fixed May 20 for ruling on the motion.
