…Urges Replacement of Deceased Commander

The Ogun State House of Assembly has approved a resolution urging the State Government to revamp the State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps with the aim to enhance the security of residents.

The assembly also urged the state government to appoint a new State Commander, not below the rank of a Major, following the passing of its former Commander.

The Assembly emphasized the necessity of recruiting more capable personnel and providing adequate resources to combat the prevalent security challenges, particularly kidnappings and armed robberies.

During the session chaired by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, Hon. Babatunde Tella, the resolution’s sponsor, highlighted the operational challenges faced by the Amotekun Corps since the demise of CP David Akinremi. Insufficient funding and the need for additional personnel, localized within communities, were identified as crucial issues hindering the Corps’ effectiveness in ensuring security across the state.

Members of the Assembly, including Honourables Olusegun Kaka, Adebisi Oyedele, Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, Adegoke Adeyanju, and Fola Salami, shared accounts of insecurity incidents in their constituencies, underscoring the urgency of addressing the situation.

The resolution also emphasized the importance of modernizing the Corps with advanced weaponry, communication devices, and additional vehicles to enhance its operational capacity.

Following a unanimous voice vote supported by the entire House, the motion for the resolution was moved by Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff and seconded by Minority Leader Adeleye Lukman.
