The Senate has successfully passed the Student Loan, Access to Higher Education Act of 2024, following thorough consideration of the report presented by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse.

President Bola Tinubu had forwarded the bill to the National Assembly for review and approval, prompting the Senate to expedite the process by suspending relevant sections of its standing rules and referring the bill to the Committee of the Whole for swift deliberation.

After extensive debate, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the bill to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for further legislative refinement, with a mandate to report back within one week.

The bill aims to facilitate access to higher education for financially disadvantaged Nigerians by establishing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which will provide interest-free loans to support education across the country.
